Classic Amish Hamburger Steak Bake—Simple Family Dinner

A warm, comforting Amish-style hamburger steak bake featuring tender ground beef patties baked in a rich, creamy gravy—simple, hearty, and made with everyday ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed saltine crackers
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 cans condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz each)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups milk (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crushed crackers, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, mixing gently.
  2. Shape the mixture into 6–8 oval patties about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Dredge patties lightly in flour, then sear in a hot skillet for 2–3 minutes per side until browned.
  4. Arrange seared patties in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Whisk cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth, then pour evenly over the patties.
  6. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake 10 minutes more.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the beef for tender patties, sear only to brown—not fully cook—and adjust gravy thickness by adding milk gradually.
