  • 1 pound pizza dough, homemade or store bought
  • 1โ€“2 drops red food coloring
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup marinara sauce, warmed (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375ยฐF and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Divide pizza dough into two equal portions.
  3. Knead red food coloring into one portion until evenly colored.
  4. Roll each portion into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  5. Cut dough into long strips about 1 inch wide.
  6. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese along each plain dough strip.
  7. Place one red strip on top of one cheese-topped plain strip and press gently.
  8. Twist the paired strips together and curve the top to form a candy cane shape.
  9. Place shaped breadsticks on prepared baking sheet.
  10. Mix melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  11. Brush garlic butter generously over each breadstick.
  12. Bake for 15โ€“18 minutes until golden and cheese is melted.
  13. Cool slightly and serve warm with marinara sauce.

Notes

Red food coloring is optional and only used for the candy cane look. Avoid overfilling with cheese to prevent leaking during baking.
