Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter
  • Granulated sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • All-purpose flour
  • Salt
  • Chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter and let it cool slightly.
  3. Whisk the melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Sift in the cocoa powder, then add the flour and salt.
  7. Gently fold the batter until just combined.
  8. Fold in chocolate chips or chunks if using.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Allow the brownies to cool completely.
  12. Cut into heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  13. Decorate as desired before serving.

Notes

Let the brownies cool completely or chill slightly before cutting for clean heart shapes. Avoid overbaking to keep the brownies fudgy.
