Ultimate Sticky Garlic Soy Chicken

A bold, sticky, garlicky soy-glazed chicken dish made with juicy chicken thighs, caramelized glaze, and simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4โ€“6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2โ€“1 tablespoon grated ginger (optional)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper (about 15 grinds)
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil
  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (~1.75 lbs)
  • 1/2 tablespoon oil for cooking
  • Optional: sliced green onions
  • Optional: toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Whisk brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger (optional), black pepper, and oil to make the marinade.
  2. Place chicken thighs in a shallow dish or bag and pour marinade over. Marinate 30 minutes to 24 hours.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium and add 1/2 tablespoon oil. Cook chicken in batches 5โ€“7 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  4. Pour leftover marinade into skillet and boil 2โ€“3 minutes until thickened into a glossy glaze.
  5. Return chicken to skillet and coat in sticky glaze.
  6. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

Boil leftover marinade to make it safe and create a sticky glaze. Cook chicken over medium heat to avoid burning sugar.
